Who needs CDP (continuous data protection) in real world?

Answer by Gregory Morawietz:

A lot of people need continuous data protection.   It depends on what your backup and disaster recovery requirements are.  If you are just talking about database backups, transaction log backups can be a form of continuous data protection but  you need to be backing up your transaction logs all the time throughout the day.  Also CDP can be used for files, email etc. not just databases.   I know many companies that require things be restored from a few minutes ago or an hour ago.   Traditional backups are not running all day long. So the only way to restore backups form a few hours ago may be by using CDP.
